Shut-ins and Convalescents Apostolate

St Elizabeth of Hungary Apostolate to the Shut-ins and Convalescents

Our fraternity ministry to the shut-ins consists of committing one hour a month to visit one of our Franciscan brothers/sisters that are not able to attend our Fraternity gatherings due to health reasons.

Who are the shut-ins?
The shut-ins are those who, through their participation in our fraternity in prior years, have made our fraternity what it is today.   Many of us were invited to become a Secular Franciscan by one of them.   Even though they can’t be present in our gatherings, their prayers for us are a testament of what we are today.

What can you do during your visit?
Some ideas include praying a Franciscan Crown Rosary, the Liturgy of the Hours or any other kind of prayer with them, sharing what is going on in our fraternity, reading to them our monthly newsletter, showing them our fraternity photo album, playing a game of cards, or just listening to them and be there for them.

Do you have an hour a month to bring joy to another Franciscan?
If so, please contact Maria Elena Meza

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father.   Inherit the kingdom of prepared for you… for I was … ill and you cared for me…
Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least of my brothers of mine, you did for me”

Gospel of Matthew Ch 25
